FLUORITE AND ITS JEWELRY
In theory, fluorite is a mineral that should be sparingly used in
jewelry design due to its low score on
Mohs hardness scale.
However, fluorite's spectacular color and translucency are very hard
to resist, and many consumers actively seek jewelry designs made
with its beads despite their frailty.
Fluorite comes in a wide array of colors, with purple and green
being the most popular ones. In fact, a great majority of consumers
will most likely only encounter jewelry designs that feature
fluorite beads of those two colors. A fluorite specimen can have
more than one color. For example, our
Purple Dream necklace features fluorite ovals that have a
number of different colors throughout their surface.
Fluorite is commonly found in nature. Some of the
well known localities where fluorite is found include
the American state of Colorado, China, Brazil, Germany, England, and
many more. Besides jewelry design, fluorite is
extensively used in a number of industrial applications. For
example, fluorite has an important role to play in the water
purification process as it's the chief source of fluorine (water
cleansing agent).
Caring for fluorite jewelry:
Fluorite is a very delicate mineral. It has a rating of 4 on
Mohs hardness scale. This
rating indicates that fluorite is easily prone to scratches.
One needs to exercise
utmost caution
when wearing a jewelry piece that contains fluorite beads. It's very
easy to cause permanent damage to it by throwing or dropping
it. Please read our guide to jewelry
care or other relevant literature to learn more on how to
care for jewelry.
