KEEPING JEWELRY CLEAN
Keeping jewelry free of dirt is relatively simple.
In most cases, wiping the jewelry off with a soft, dry and
non-abrasive cloth after wearing it will do the trick. Accumulated
sweat and soft dirt will both be easily removed with this cleaning
method. When it comes to hardened dirt, the jewelry can be washed in
a timid water and mild soap such as Ivory.
Always wash the jewelry
with a soft cloth only. Refrain from using scrubbing sponges or
brushes as you can easily scratch the jewelry that way. Bigger lumps
of dirt may be removed by carefully using fingernails. Please
refrain from using a knife or any other sharp object as you can not
only damage the jewelry but also cause a personal injury.
After
being finished, wrap the jewelry in a paper towel, and let it dry.
Some individuals recommend using a toothbrush to clean the dirty
jewelry. One needs to be very careful; softer materials such as
pearls can easily be scratched beyond help if such a cleaning
technique is utilized. Avoid using strong soaps, detergents or
ammonia. As previously mentioned, mild soap such as Ivory is really
the preferable solution to the problem.
There are companies that
market cleaning solutions that are advertised to be specifically
formulated for jewelry applications. Most of the ones that we
encountered are ammonia and acid free, which should make them pretty
safe for use. However, read the provided instructions carefully
before applying any such cleaning solution on our beaded jewelry.
Keep the jewelry away from steam as some materials can lose color if
exposed to it. If still in doubt, visit a jewelry professional who
should be able to provide additional assistance in this matter.
To keep our beaded jewelry away from harmful
chemicals means also keeping it away from items that we use on
almost daily basis: hair sprays, cosmetics, lotions, and various
household cleaners. These items can easily discolor some materials
used in our jewelry.
Take off the
jewelry whenever you are applying makeup, taking a shower, washing
the dishes or performing any other routine household cleaning. By
doing that, you will be able to avoid contact with substances that
can damage or discolor the jewelry. Also, we strongly recommend
against wearing our beaded jewelry while swimming in the pool as
chlorine can cause substantial damage to it.
