RHODOCHROSITE AND ITS JEWELRY

Rhodochrosite jewelry designs are definitely one of our favorite ones. The gentle pink color that rhodochrosite beads usually come in simply looks great. It's very hard to capture rhodochrosite's delicate color on camera. Its complexity and frailty just has to be seen in person to be appreciated.

Small, intricate white, beige or pale gray streaks that are commonly found on it add to the allure of the gemstone as they almost make it look like rare marble. Moreover, they make rhodochrosite match perfectly with silver beads. However, pink is not the only color that the mineral comes in as it is also found in other colors such as red and white.

When it comes to chemistry, manganese and carbon are the two chemical elements making up the mineral. Two physical properties of the mineral stand out. Firstly, rhodochrosite is non-fluorescent. Secondly, it is very fragile, which implies that any owner of the jewelry piece that features rhodochrosite will have to pay close attention to general jewelry care guidelines in order to prevent damage to it.

In general, few consumers will encounter rhodochrosite jewelry designs. This has very little to do with mineral's scarcity is as there is a great amount of locations all over the world where the mineral is currently being mined. However, rhodochrosite specimens found in Argentina and the American state of Colorado are world renowned for their superior quality.

Caring for rhodochrosite jewelry:

Rhodochrosite is a very delicate mineral. It has a rating of between 3.5 and 4 on Mohs hardness scale. This rating indicates that rhodochrosite is easily prone to scratches.

One needs to exercise utmost caution when wearing a jewelry piece that contains rhodochrosite. It's very easy to cause permanent damage to it by throwing or dropping it. Please read our guide to jewelry care or other relevant literature to learn more on how to care for jewelry.
